Following the best marketing practices of traditional IT firms, Google has introduced a partner program to deal third-party vendors use and to sell Google’s cloud services.
The Google’s Cloud Platform Partner Program will offer “our partners with the tools, training and resources they need to successfully settle your business’ IT needs,” told by Eric Morse, Google’s head of sales and business development for the Google Cloud Platform, in a blog entry declaring the program.
Google will provide resources around its cloud offerings, just like Google Compute Engine, Google App Engine, Google BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage. Google didn’t detail what particular tools, training and resources it will offer, or what are the requirements for becoming a partner.
As with most IT partnerships, however, Google partners anticipate the company will provide sales leads and give help as the partners carry out their own possible leads. Google could also offer easy access and engineering expertise for new technologies.
David Cope, who is the chief marketing officer of Google technology partner CliQr,said, “the partnership gives CliQr with “the exposure and working combination with Google’s sales and marketing teams.” Supported by Google Ventures, CliQr supplies a platform for switching and carry on virtual workloads across multiple cloud providers. Google accepted CliQr to the partner program after Google managers viewing again CliQr’s technology.
Google is taking interest in its technologies from other third-party integrators, ISVs, resellers, consultants and vendors. One PaaS (platform-as-a-service) provider, Orangescape Technologies, moved a snack computing platform from Lotus Notes to one based on Google App Engine. For an office of the U.K National Weather Service, PA Consulting assisted build an online weather forecast app using Google App Engine and Google Maps.
For the program, Google converts into different categories its business partners into two categories: service partners and technology partners.
Service partners provide advice and implementation supports for using Google cloud services. Companies like Computer Sciences Corp., WiPro Technologies and LTech have already been formally anointed as official Google service partners.
