picplz

PicPlz was a social photo sharing application. When it was launched as a competitor to instagram, it gained a lot of attention to the users. However, facebook bought Instagram with all their man power, and now picplz was not that strong to stand alone in this big world.

They have decided to move away from the market and the team has announced in blogs and emails that the service of picplz will end on 3rd July 2012.

Picplz was much more powerful than Instagram in various ways. As an example, it was able to provide statistics of API usage to the users which was not available in Instagram. Picplz was also available on both iphone and android, whereas Instagram was only available on iphone. The team of picplz was not that big like Instagram, but it was very creative in terms of making an application ready for picture sharing.

Both applications were able to put filters, share in albums and many different things. Picasa is also one of the similar examples. However, Picasa did not shut down because it was a property of google.

Picplz have given the access to users to download their current photos so that they are saved on their harddisks before all the photos get deleted.

May picplz team come up with something new and innovative!
